PPS International became the first indigenous company to install a fully indigenously developed Retractable Rigid Catenary System.
Descriptive Text

We are proud to announce that PPS International has achieved a significant and innovative development that will accelerate the country’s progress by enhancing railway infrastructure. The first fully indigenously developed Retractable Rigid Catenary System (RRCS) was installed by PPS International at the Ghaziabad Loco Shed. The impact of installing the RRCS is outlined below:

Features:

The RRCS saves time and money by eliminating the need for diesel locomotives to move trains in and out of the depot/shed or during push/pull operations when placing or pulling out of a siding or freight terminal.

The RRCS can be customized to meet the specific needs of each depot, shed, freight siding, or container terminal, and is adaptable to accommodate trains or freight stock of varying lengths.

The retractable nature of the catenary reduces the risk of accidents, as trains and freight wagons are not exposed to live wires during maintenance or while loading/unloading operations are being carried out.

The Retractable Rigid Catenary System (RRCS) is designed to provide a reliable power supply to electric locomotives via an overhead contact line. Once moved aside by the motorized system, it frees up the train roof or wagon top area for inspection, maintenance work, or heavy lifting during loading/unloading activities.

Benefits :

By using the RRCS, no additional hauling systems, such as diesel locomotives, are required to move the entire rake from the OHE to the non-OHE section, making the container loading and unloading process much easier.

The trains or wagon rakes can directly approach the electric locomotive. Once they reach the loading/unloading point or maintenance pit, the entire OHE (Overhead Equipment) can be retracted to the side, allowing loading/unloading under the shed and silos, or maintenance work on the roof. Afterward, the rakes can be directly moved to the take-off points for their onward journey to their destinations.

The minimal or nil use of diesel locomotives results in significant cost savings, particularly in fuel consumption and maintenance.

It increases the rake loading/unloading and locomotive maintenance turnaround time, thereby enhancing overall productivity.

It can be installed in loading/unloading areas where fixed OHE (Overhead Equipment) cannot be used due to operational constraints.

The RRCS installed at Ghaziabad Shed is a cutting-edge solution designed to optimize space and improve operational efficiency in maintenance sheds. This system allows for the overhead catenary to be retracted, providing clear and safe access for the maintenance of electric locomotives.

Since its installation, the RRCS at Ghaziabad has been operating smoothly, providing seamless functionality and enhancing the safety and efficiency of locomotive maintenance. This successful implementation underscores PPS International's capability to deliver state-of-the-art solutions for the Indian Railways.

With this achievement, PPS International is poised to expand the deployment of RRCS systems across various railway sheds and workshops nationwide, contributing to the modernization of India's railway infrastructure.
